Effect of Heat Treatment Stress on Quenching Cracks (II)
Under normal circumstances, cracks can only occur in non-hardenable components. Although rapid overall cooling is a necessary condition for their formation, the true cause of these cracks does not lie in the rapid cooling itself (including within the martensitic transformation zone). Instead, it stems from the significantly reduced cooling rate at localized positions of the quenched part (determined by geometric structure) within the high-temperature critical range, resulting in insufficient hardening. The transverse fractures and longitudinal splits that occur in large non-hardenable components are caused by residual tensile stresses, predominantly thermal in nature, acting on the core of the quenched part. These cracks first form at the unhardened central cross-section and propagate outward. To prevent such cracks, a water-oil dual-medium quenching process is often employed. In this process, rapid cooling during the high-temperature stage aims solely to ensure the outer layer of metal achieves a martensitic structure. From the perspective of internal stresses, this rapid cooling is detrimental rather than beneficial. Furthermore, the purpose of slow cooling in the later stages is not primarily to reduce the expansion rate of martensitic transformation or the magnitude of structural stresses, but rather to minimize cross-sectional temperature differences and the contraction rate of the metal at the central cross-section, thereby reducing stress levels and ultimately preventing quenching cracks.

The Furnace Lining
 The furnace lining is made of aluminum silicate fiber, which has strong high temperature resistance and good thermal insulation performance. The bearing part is built with heavy firebrick to enhance the structural strength of the furnace lining. In order to ensure that the heat transfer at the bottom of the trolley is not very high, the thermal insulation layer of the trolley is made of tridacidal refractory fiber and diatomite insulation brick composite structure to improve the thermal insulation performance of the furnace body

The heating element adopts 0Cr27AL7M02 high resistance alloy produced by Shougang and is arranged on the furnace door, furnace side, furnace back wall and platform car.

The trolley is equipped with a pressure-resistant and high-temperature-resistant cast steel furnace bottom plate for bearing workpieces. To prevent the oxide scale generated after workpiece heating from falling into the heating element area through the gaps between the bottom plates and causing damage to the heating elements, an inserted contact method is adopted at the junction between the furnace bottom plate and the furnace body.
